In two older articles we showed how to change the default location to automatically save the screenshotfixes may (here) and how to change the default .PNG format to another image format (.JPG, .TIFF, .PDF, .GIF) for "Screen Shot" files (here) made on macOS.
users Mac I know that compared to Windows, on laptops and computers Apple screenshots are saved much easier and custom key combinations can be set (keyboard shortcuts) depending on what exactly we want to capture and how we want the capture to be saved. These settings are found in “System Preferences”→“ Keyboard ”→“ Screenshots ”.
From here we can decide which key combination to use for automatically saving a screen shot on the hard drive or for saving it to the clipboard.
Newer models of MacBook Pro offers support for ScreenShot and Touch Bar. From here the user can decide where to save the screenshot and which portion of the screen to capture in the screenshot.
Both screen saves saved by the combination of keys and those made using the function in touch Bar, is saved on the hard drive in the location we chose (or on the Desktop) with a default name of the form "Screen Shot -date-".
If we want the name of the saved file to be other than "Screen Shot", we can change it using a simple command line in Terminal.
How to change the default name of "Screen Shot" files to macOS
1. Open "Terminal" and execute the command line:
defaults write com.apple.screencapture name "iHowTo.Tips"
Replace the name "iHowTo.Tips" with the one you want.
2. Restart the interface Mac with command line:
killall SystemUIServer
New screenshots will be saved with the file name of the form "iHowTo.Tips 2018-02-27 at 10.48.20".
To return to the initial settings it is easy to understand what needs to be done. Just put the name "Screen Shot" on the first command line.
