Starting with iOS 18.2, Apple has introduced for Airtag a new feature that helps you find lost objects in a simpler and more efficient way.

The Find MY app now offers an option called "object location" (Share Item Location), which allows the user to temporarily share the location of an Airtag or another device compatible with a trusted person. This function is specially designed for situations where you lose an important object and you need the help of another person to recover it quickly.

The new feature is a welcome complement to the existing functions of the Find My Airtag application. Unlike the option "Share Item", which offers permanent access to the location of an Airtag, the new feature, "object location" is focused on temporary collaboration. The function allows you to generate a link that can be shared with a person or airline, facilitating the recovery of lost objects, such as luggage.

To use this function, make sure you have installed iOS 18.2 and follow the steps below:

1. Open the app Finding (Find My) on iPhone, iPad or Mac.

2. Go to the objects (ITEMS) tab.

3. Select the Airtag or other lost object.

4. Scroll down until you see the option "Object location sharing".

5. Follow the instructions displayed to activate sharing.

The "object location sharing" function will generate a link that includes a map with the real-time location of the object you want to find.

This function is very useful when you need to find lost items or lost luggage between airports. Apple has collaborated with airlines to integrate the support of this function in their customer assistance channels. Over 15 airlines have expressed their commitment to support, and some of them have already implemented this option.

Apple draws attention to the fact that although their system is designed to protect the privacy of users, people with whom you share the link will be able to view certain information about you. Thus, in the Find MY application, the serial number of the lost object, as well as your email address or phone number associated with the Apple account will be visible.

This is an intentional functionality, necessary for third parties, such as airlines, to be able to contact you during the lost object search process. However, it is important to be aware of these details when you decide to share Airtag information through the Share Item Location function.
