AOL Instant Messenger, will remain in the minds of nostalgia for a long time. Little known in Europe, but top service more than a decade across the ocean, AIM messenger service will close definitively in December 2017, after 20 years of operation. It has tied millions of users in the United States and other parts of the world.

The announcement was made by the company itself Oath, which, following the merger between Verizon and AOL, also took over the AIM service. As a bracket, Oath is a subsidiary of Verizon, which at the beginning of this year also took a good part of Yahoo !. Including Yahoo! Messenger.

The AIM closure process started in March 2017, when third-party applications in AIM were withdrawn. Only chat messenger is available inside the application.

It is not known whether Oath will keep the AIM brand or whether it will be transferring to another messenger service that meets the current market demands.

The full announcement can be found on the company's official blog - AOL INSTANT MESSENGER (AIM).
