The update to iOS 18.2, iPados 18.2 and Macos Sequoia 15.2 Insert the Image Playground directly on the main iPhone or Mac screen. An application based on artificial intelligence, with which you can create animated images (with 3D effect) or illustrations, based on text description or already existing pictures on iPhone, iPad or Mac.

What is Apple Image Playground and how it works?

Apple Image Playground is an application dedicated to generating texts based on text descriptions, offering the possibility to transform your creative ideas into stylized images. It is if you want, an instrument you can have fun with, generating animated images or funny illustrations. Whether you describe "a cat in a room decorated for Christmas" or "A Hazlie Football Ball", the application immediately begins to create the desired image.

Here's what came out to me with Image Playground, after I gave the above descriptions:

Of course I could not notice the resemblance between the images generated by The co -pilot app A Microsoft and those obtained with PlayGround.

How do you use the Image Playground app on Mac, iPhone or iPad?

The application interface is very intuitive whether you use it on your iPhone, iPad or Mac device. If you open the application, you will see an introductory screen with instructions on how to use Image Playground, but use is simple. At the bottom there is a text bar with the message "Describe An Image", where you can enter a word or expression in which you can best describe the image that you want to generate artificial intelligence. Basically, you can write anything, such as "two black cats near the Christmas tree", and the application will generate more pictures of what you asked for.

At each generated image you can change the result by adding other textual descriptions or using the suggestions offered by Apple. You will receive more variants for each description, which you can travel by sliding and choose what you like. By adding or eliminating words and phrases, you can adjust the image until you get exactly what you want.

The result will change in a few seconds, after adding or eliminated elements from the generated image. (Yes, I really have two black cats).

In addition to the images generated based on text words or descriptions, Image Playground can generate pictures based on you. People, pets, vacations landscapes or any other pictures you upload or bring from the Photos app.

Each photo of a person will look different, because Image Playground uses the angle, lighting and features specific to that image, and not a general composition. You can slide through options to see which variant is closest to the person's animated appearance and you can make adjustments using text descriptions

If you are in an inspirational moment, you can leave a photo or a wide range of suggestions you can add to the images:

  • THEMES: Adventure, disco, summer, party, sunset, fantasy.
  • Locations: city, space, desert, park, meadow, forest.
  • Costume: artist, cook, hiking, magician, robot, superhero.
  • Accessory: sunglasses, buttocks, party hat, flower crown.

These suggestions are just starting points. You can choose any location, objects or accessories using textual descriptions.

Limits of Image Playground

1. The size and composition of images with people: You can only generate portraits, without the option of creating whole body images.

2. Text: AI has difficulty reproducing legible texts on images.

3. Restricted phrases: Terms related to violence, politics or sensitive themes are blocked.

4. Complex images: The more detailed descriptions are, the more imprecise the results.

Availability and security

Image Playground is available starting with iOS 18.2, iPados 18.2 and Macos 15.2, on all iPhone, iPad and Mac devices, compatible with Apple Intelligence.

The generation of images takes place locally, on the device, which means that nothing of what you write is sent to the cloud. Apple collects feedback to improve experience.

I've been writing passionately since 2004 about Windows and Linux operating systems, and since 2010 I've become a fan of Apple University. I'm currently writing tutorials for Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods, and other Apple devices.
