Apple has launched a new update, iOS 17.4 Beta 2 containing significant changes for iPhone holders in the EU.

One of the most significant changes is related to the installation of applications on iPhone devices. Starting in March, the iPhone owners who are from the European Union will have the opportunity to install applications on iOS from third sources, not only from the App Store.

Another major change that will be present on iOS 17.4, is related to the establishment of the default Internet browser. At the first opening of the Safari browser, users will have an alternative browsers list they can install and set the default browser. And this change also comes from a regulation imposed on Apple by the European Union.

Users who have installed iOS 17.4 beta 2 (or beta 1) can already see these new changes.

Regarding the application developers for iPhone, iPad or Mac, they will benefit reduced commissions for the applications developed in the European Union.

The IOS applications in the EU can now accept alternative terms with commissions set to 17%, plus 3% if the applications use the Apple system, in-APP Purchase. This represents a significant reduction to the old 30%tax rate, levied by Apple. The small businesses that develop applications will pay a 10%commission, plus 3%, compared to 15%. The applications for applications that are popular enough to sell more than one million units per year (The Core Technology Fee (CTF)) will be 0.50 € per annual installation. This tax will be for both App Store and EU users can be installed from other sources.
