Shortly after launching the first beta versions for developing future Macos Sequoia and iOS 18 operating systems, Apple has announced that features such as Apple Intelligence, iPhone Mirroring and Shareplay Screen Sharing will not be available in the European Union. Basically, these are some of the most important functions on the new versions of Apple operating systems.

This decision comes due to concerns about the regulations regarding the conformity with Digital Markets Act. Apple has reported that these functions will not be available at all for customers in the European Union this year.

It is not clear what requirements imposed by Digital Markets Act are needed in the context of these new functions, but Apple said in a statement that they would compromise confidentiality and security. It is most likely about some restrictions on these functions that Apple cannot put on users in the European Union. However, although it has not been estimated once, Apple Intelligence, iPhone Mirroring on Mac and Shareplay Screen Sharing could also be available for users in the EU next year.

Apple Intelligence is a new technology developed by Apple, which includes a set of new AI functions (including writing tools, Image PlayGrounds, notification summaries, fast answers and others) and a major review of the Virtual assistant Siri.

iPhone Mirroring is the main important new feature in Macos Sequoia, which allows users to see from Mac an interactive iPhone screen. The iPhone notifications are also mirrored on the Mac screen.

Shareplay Screen Sharing is an update to the screen sharing function. With iOS 18, users will be able to ask to take control of a friend's device. It is an absolutely useful function for users who need help to configure some device settings.

For users outside the European Union, Apple Intelligence will begin to be available this fall for US 18.0 devices in English. More intelligence functions, such as some of the new Siri capacities, will be available in future iOS updates. The iPhone Mirroring feature is scheduled to be launched later this year, in an update to Macos Sequoia. Shareplay Screen Sharing should be part of the first IOS 18.0 launch.
