Announced at WWDC 2024 and available this fall, Macos Sequoia brings some new, very important features. If you are a poppy user and install Macos 15.1 you can download applications from the App Store to the external disc, leaving the storage space free.
How can you download applications from external disc (Macos Sequoia)
Starting with Macos 15.1 Beta 3, Apple has added a new option by which users can choose to download applications from the App Store on an external hard disk, thus avoiding the MAC storage. This feature is very useful especially for those with MacBook with low storage capacity, 125 GB or 256 GB.

Once this option is activated you can download applications from the App Store to the external disc, provided they are greater than 1 GB. Applications less than 1 GB will automatically download on Mac's storage, without having the option to download and install on an external hard drive.
Also, starting with Macos Sequoia, the App Store no longer requires a double storage space compared to the application size to start downloading. In the past, to download a 2 GB application, at least 4 GB available on Mac was needed. Now, the requirement of free space will only be the final size of the application, plus a small buffer.
"Starting with Macos 15, the App Store no longer requires a double free space for downloading and installing an application. The new requirement will be the final size of the application plus a small buffer. Developers should consider this change when communicating about space requirements."
macOS Sequoia It will be available to the public starting September 9, and Macos 15.1 is scheduled to be launched at the end of October.
