Apple has released a critical security update for iPhone, iPad, and Mac that fixes a limited number of issues. Although the list of changes is concise, iOS 17.1.2 and macOS Sonoma 14.1.2 patch 2 actively address two web browsing vulnerabilities that have been exploited.

In the device details for these updates, Apple keeps to its usual wording, stating that the update provides "important security fixes and is recommended for all users." However, the security updates page details the two exploited vulnerabilities, both within the WebKit browser engine.

The first vulnerability allowed the disclosure of sensitive information through the processing of web content, while the second facilitated the execution of arbitrary code through the same method. Both issues have been reported and fixed, underscoring the importance of updating immediately to keep devices secure iPhone, iPad, Mac.

To perform this security update, go to:

MacOS: System Settings > General > Software Update

iOS / iPadOS: Settings > General > Software Update.

The update is not available for devices that have beta versions of operating systems installed. iOS 17.2 / macOS Sonoma 14.2
