We all know that the application Whatsapp was bought by Facebook at the beginning of 2014, for no more, no less than 19 billion dollars.
Although everyone expected at that time that the application would change radically after its takeover by Facebook, Whatsapp it has not brought much news in recent years. More of an exchange of features between Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp Messenger, not much happened. And we are not saying that it would necessarily be a bad thing. Maybe sometimes it is good not to try too hard to develop an application. There were others, like Yahoo!, who developed a messenger application until they closed it completely.
Coming back to WhatsApp, the service is offered natively for Android and iPhone mobile phones. iPad, Mac or PC users can use WhatsApp Web or the WhatsApp applications for Mac and Windows, but these will not work if the mobile phone or iPhone is not nearby and/or not connected to the Internet. Basically, when we open WhatsApp on Mac, that application only uses an API to the iPhone application. If we completely turn off the iPhone or have no internet on it, the WhatsApp application on the Mac will no longer be able to be used. For those who want WhatsApp on iPad, is even more complicated. A WhatsApp application for iPad does not exist. However, there is a web version that can be accessed from the iPad. The condition is the same. Scan the QR code with the WhatsApp application on iPhone or Android, and maintaining an internet connection on the mobile device.
Another inconvenience is that the application WhatsApp from iPhone it can only send data to one device. So you won't be able to simultaneously use WhatsApp on both iPad and Mac.
The good news is that from what we hear, they are working on one major update of the WhatsApp platform. It will move to a similar platform Messages (iMessages) of Apple, which allows the WhatsApp application to run independently with the same account, on several devices. This would automatically mean that you will no longer need to have your iPhone nearby or connected to the Internet when you open the WhatsApp application on your Mac or iPad. Ah. Sure. Even the iPhone battery will not be a problem when you are chatting on WhatsApp from the application for macOS. I think this is currently the biggest inconvenience for us. We can't keep a conversation on WhatsApp from the Mac, because we have no more battery on the iPhone.
With the launch of this multi-platform service of WhatsApp, it seems that it will finally launch a official WhatsApp application for iPad. Of course, the new application will be designed directly for the new operating system Ipados, which will replace iOS on all iPad devices starting this fall.
A problem that should not be overlooked will be the encryption system after switching to multi-platform. Currently, WhatsApp uses an encryption key for each individual chat, but with the transition to multi-platform, it will most likely switch to a unique encryption key. end-to-end encryption per each device, as Apple currently uses for the Messages service.
It remains to be seen how the development of the WhatsApp service and platform will evolve, especially since at the beginning of this year there were rumors that WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram will be united in a single chat service.
