For poppy users, a good idea is to hold digital photos in the application Photos. It has many interesting options for sorting and storing information about each picture. From the model of the camera or the mobile phone from which the capture was made, and until the date, resolution, focal (focal Length), diaphragm (aperture), GPS coordinates. All this information metadata From the photo file are added by the camera in a format EXIF. A separate file for exif is not required.
Additional information added to a photo, such as locations, Facial identification of the people in the picture, keywords, copyright And other details, can be added manually to the application Photos or in other similar applications of photo management and administration. This information will be added manually in metatata and will be retained in standard Pptc (International Press Telecommunications Council).
The new iOS versions are able to automatically add a lot of information in IPTC with a little help from the user. For example, if in an image you are suggested to add a name for a detected girl, the application will search and automatically detect that girl in other photos. Thus being able to make a quick sorting and a separate virtual gallery. "People & Places"On iOS 13, for example.
Untill Pptc the tags added to an image in Finder on Mac.
Example of extended metadata See in the image below:
XMP files contain the information from MetataData IPTC. These files is saved separately with the photo file, and can be imported into advanced graphics editing programs, as Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, application Photos from maccos or similar ones. In this file will be found and Information on changes to photography and the application they were made.
If you have added such information in the pictures from the Photos application, it is good to check "Export IPTC as XMP"At their export.
To keep these additional metatata in the image file, you can opt for The first export option, and the resulting file will keep all the data, without the need for additional XMP.
"Export Unmodified Original Photo” cu “Export IPTC as XMP"It will save a file with the original picture, without additional metatata, plus a file XMP which will contain the additional data. In most cases this XMP is not needed. Note that by this option, The exported picture will be the original, asa How was it captured by the camera. The applied filters and other changes made in the Photos application will be lost. For the export of the edited photography, the option remains ”Export Photo…“.
