It is a little paradoxical that for graphic, video and audio editing, macOS is an operating system that offers generous solutions and top performance, but when it comes to games, we cannot say the same. We are referring here to games graphics performance which are completely missing on the Mac. We won't find it action games with groundbreaking special effects and graphics or FIFA 2018, for example.

There is still good news, and top games could also be developed for macOS with the introduction of Vulkan API support.

Vulkan is a API GPU cross-platform, already successfully supported by operating systems such as Android, Linux, Windows, game consoles, VR Kit and others. It is able to support graphics chips of the biggest players on the market in this field. Intel, Nvidia, AMD, ARM and others.

Consortium Khronos Group, specialized in creating open standards dedicated to the graphics industry, recently launched MoltenVK for macOS and iOS. This means that it allows developers to "export" games and applications dedicated to Android and Windows to iOS and macOS.

US company VALVE (game producers), has already started testing the new MoltenVK engine and developing the test version of the game Dota 2 for Mac.

It remains to be seen how long this support will be adopted by several game producing companies. It could be an unexploited market with great purchasing power.

I've been writing passionately since 2004 about Windows and Linux operating systems, and since 2010 I've become a fan of Apple University. I'm currently writing tutorials for Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods, and other Apple devices.
