These days, Apple issued a statement in which they announced the launch of a voluntary program service call and free replacement of MacBook Pro 15 inch batteries. Targeted by this program free battery replacement are the 15-inch MacBook Pro devices sold between September 2015 and February 2017. These devices have batteries that overheat very much and represents a risk in use.
It is not a problem that occurs with all MacBook Pro 15-inches sold in the period mentioned above, but there are some units whose batteries overheat and represent a potential risk for user safety, say those from Apple. Customers affected by this problem I can ask Apple to replace the battery for free.
This program of voluntary battery replacement for MacBook Pro 15-inch is only valid for the affected devices, sold between September 2015 and February 2017. In this sense, Apple launched a official support page where 15-inch MacBook Pro owners can check based on the serial number (serial number), if the device is eligible for free battery replacement.
Apple today announced a voluntary recall of a limited number of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro units which contain a battery that may overheat and pose a safety risk. The units were sold primarily between September 2015 and February 2017 and can be identified by their product serial number.
The press release specifies quite clearly that it is only about these MacBook models, others not being affected.
How can you check if your MacBook Pro 15-inch is eligible for a free battery replacement?
- Go to the "Apple" () menu at the top left and click on "About This Mac".
- Check if your model is "MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)."
- Copy the serial from the right "Serial Number".
- Go to the official page of the program: 15-inch MacBook Pro Battery Recall Program
- Enter the "Serial Number" copied at point "3".
If your device is eligible for this program, you must contact a Apple Authorized Service and request a free battery change. The MacBook Pro will be examined in service, and the resolution period will be one to two weeks.
It is recommended that before you send the MacBook Pro for service, make sure that you have a backup (reserve copy) of all the data stored on it.
The free battery change program will not extend the warranty and is also addressed to devices that have left the warranty period.
If the serial number does not appear eligible for free battery replacement, but you notice that it gets very hot when the MacBook Pro is in use, you can contact an Apple Authorized Service, where you can report this problem.
